Mackillop Catholic College in consultation with
Chris and Keely has decided to remember Tegan in a practical way.
College principal Mr Michael Lee said she would
be long remembered through the "Tegan Blunt Memorial Gift',
which would be awarded annually and administered by a committee
of teachers and students.
"To make certain that her compassion endures
in a practical way, the college has decided to establish a fund
that will support students who have a worthwhile need or initiative,"
he said. "It will be sustained by ongoing fundraising and subscription."
Mr Lee said the fund would be set aside for worthy
student projects, ideas and initiatives. "Tegan was very much
a person who looked out for other people. She was quick to put up
her hand to volunteer and brought energy and enthusiasm to everything.
Tegan's care for others will go on." He said she would be remembered
for her "generous spirit" and "ability to look after
others in need".
If anyone wishes to find out more information about
the gift or would like to make a donation, you are invited to do
so by either sending an email via the 'Contact' link above or by
getting in touch with the College directly.

Thanks to the support of Teegs family, friends
and many others who did not know her; it looks like the Tegan Blunt
Memorial Gift will be $200 better off :)
Teegs Dad Chris entered a photo into the Canberra Times Lake Burley
Griffin 50th Birthday photo competition. It made the final and with
voting closing tonight (Teegs Birthday) it is currently in first
place! (a position Teegs always strived for and often succeeded).
The 'Gift' helps current and former Mackillop students with funding
to help them reach their goals. For example, it has helped an Olympian
with training travel costs and a volunteer to travel to Tanzania
to teach English.

Mackillop Day
Besides celebrating the canonisation of St Mary Mackillop who is
the Patron Saint of the College, Mackillop Day is a fun filled day
of activities that is held annually with proceeds raised going to
the Tegan Blunt Memorial Gift.
In the lead up to this years Mackillop Day, five high-profile sporting
teams donated signed memorabilia to the College to help in the raising
of funds for the Tegan Blunt Memorial Gift. The Great Western Sydney
Giants donated a signed jumper, The ACT Brumbies donated a signed
jumper, The Canberra Raiders donated a signed Rugby League ball,
The Canberra United Women's Soccer team donated a signed soccer
ball and the Canterbury Bulldogs donated a signed jumper to be raffled
off on Mackillop Day. Mackillop's Faith and Community Captain, Grace
Wilkinson said "it's awesome that these sports teams are so willing
to support the Tegan Blunt Memorial Gift which is a fund that helps
students achieve their sporting, academic, cultural, or social justice
goals. Tegan was such a generous student and her legacy lives through
the Gift. Mackillop does a lot of fundraising for various charities
but the Tegan Blunt Memorial Gift is special in that it helps the
Mackillop students who need that extra bit of help"
Also in the lead up to Mackillop Day, both Tegan's Sister Chelsea
and former Student Brianna Thomas spoke to Students and Staff at
the College assembly. Chelsea bravely spoke about her big Sister
and Brianna spoke about the impact of losing her class mate and
friend while in Year 11. Both Chelsea and Brianna expressed their
gratitude to the students for continuing Teeg's legacy by raising
money for the Tegan's Memorial Fund.

them in the pursuit of their dreams. The funds have been used to support
these students with:

Overseas travel to Schools in East Africa
Thank you to all those that have contributed and congratulations
to the deserved fund recipients. I am certainly overwhelmed and
I'm sure Teegs would be too by the level of support and generosity
shown.
2/8/09 Inaugural recipient
The first recipient of the 'Tegan Blunt Memorial Gift' is Michael
Phelan from Year 12. Michael is the current Australian Under 19
Road Cycling Champion and will use the $2000 awarded to help fund
his trip to Europe where he will represent Australia in the World
Junior Road Cycling Championships to be held in Moscow this month.
Michael was good friends with Tegan and even trained and competed
together in track and road cycling so is certainly a most worthy
inaugural beneficiary of this gift. Congratulations Michael and
good luck in Moscow.
