Like most 15 and 16 year olds, Tegan was starting
to gain some financial independence. She loved shopping and took
great pride in buying a birthday present, Christmas present or gift
for her family and friends using her own money. Tegan was learning
to drive and was also putting aside a few dollars each week towards
buying her very first car.
Tegan’s first job at age 15 was at Beaumont
Tiles at Fyshwick with her Mum Keely. On weekends and during school
holidays she would be seen assisting customers and answering the
phone. With Tegan’s personality and infectious smile, the
job came easy to her.
Given Tegan’s love for sport, she then applied
and was successful in gaining a casual position at Rebel Sport at
Woden and she couldn’t wait each week to check her payslip
to see how much she had earned for a job that she enjoyed. Most
of her pay however was then given back to Rebel Sport in exchange
for the latest Adidas clothing or sport products from the shop!
On occasions Tegan would also earn some money by
looking after a nearby neighbours pets while they went away on holidays.
Each day she would feed and take their Jack Russell dog ‘Millie’
for a walk around the block and then feed and talk to their guinea
pig and fish. Mind you, given Tegan’s love for animals, she
did not consider this a job and on each occasion tried to refuse
the money she was given.
