Tegan has always been a fierce
competitor no matter what the event from playing ‘hangman’
or board games to the Mackillop Scavenger Hunt and even the year
10 Fancy Dress School Formal. If there was to be a winner, then
Tegan was in it to win and she invariably did.
Tegan’s list of sporting achievements are
long, starting as a 4 year old where she was awarded ribbons for
gymnastics and then at Fadden Primary School where she was crowned
junior, intermediate and senior girls age champion in Athletics
and Cross Country. At Mackillop Catholic College, Tegan entered
everything from Athletics, Swimming, Soccer, Oz-tag, AFL, Softball
and even Rugby and despite not training she still managed to be
the athletics carnival age champion for several years running and
was crowned the Sportswoman of the year in 2007. Heaven only knows
what she could have achieved had she trained.
Tegan was a natural when it came to sport and in
2005 was selected to be part of the ACT Academy of Sport Cycling
Talent ID program. The training for this program involved 6:30am
starts at the Australian Institute of Sport on the other side of
town. Now anyone who knows Tegan will realise that getting up when
it is still dark is something she would seldom do but she persisted
which was testament to her character and with her persistence came
results like winning the Silver medal at the ACT Junior Women’s
Omnium Track Titles and picking up some prize money at the Wagga
Golden Wheel Race Carnival.
Tegan loved sport so much she joined many clubs
including the Erindale Police Citizens Youth Club where she enjoyed
rock climbing. The Calwell Little Athletics Club where she excelled
in sprint and jumping events. The Mustangz Netball Club where she
was part of the team that were intermediate premiers on two successive
occasions and in 2005 she won the coaches award for her performance
as a wing defender. More recently she joined the Woden Valley Soccer
Club where in her first season she won the coaches most improved
player award after helping her under 16 team reach the grand final.
She enjoyed Soccer so much she continued to play this year in the
Woden Valley Women’s State League 6 Team.
